History Founded in 1882 within the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, and since 1952 as part of the Thunder Bay Dioces, it continues to serve the spiritual needs of the Anglophone, Francophone and native peoples in the western portion of the Diocese. It was previously under the direction of the Oblate Fathers for over a century and is now under the direction of Fr. Rudy Manaloto, an Augustinian Priest. Notre Dame du Portage Parish has been and continues to be the centre for missionary activity within a 60 mile radius of Kenora, serving such places as Sioux Narrows, Nestor Falls, Redditt and Whitedog First Nations. From June to August in any given year, the demographics of Kenora changes dramatically. |
