I am a US and Canadian citizen who has lived in Canada since 1971. I practice my profession as a psychologist in Kenora, Ontario. I maintain an independent practice in the Kenora - Ft. Frances - Dryden - Sioux Lookout areas. Over the past 14 years, I have worked extensively with Aboriginal as well as non-Aboriginal people in Northwestern Ontario. My professional interests focus particularly on working with individuals to develop what I refer to as inner skills. This work involves developing awareness of the thoughts, beliefs, emotions and coping strategies that determine the climate of our inner lives and which predetermine our patterns of relating to others and managing our public world. I also have considerable experience in assessing individual strengths and needs, in working to advance the participation of citizens with disablities in community life, and in working with young people to develop skills for self-awareness, cooperation and engagement in relationships with others.
My personal interests include maintaining contact with friends across North America and around the world, participating in artistic and cultural events, keeping up with current events, running, hiking, bicycling, kayaking, tennis, reading, journalling, camping, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, gardening, travelling, investment management, and gaining spiritual understanding through openness to diverse spiritual traditions centred around my personal Christian perspective.
I plan at some point to carry out further development of my Inner Skills Network Website. This site will then serve as a linkage point and resource centre for individuals interested in cultivating an awareness and understanding of their own and others' inner worlds - encompassing a full range of human thinking, emotional, interpersonal and motivational processes. I met Susan Evenden on February 15, 1998. Susan has four children - Megan, Tom, Stephanie and Hilary - who grew up very rapidly before my eyes! They now lead quite independent lives. Susan and I live on Middle Lake, just north of Keewatin (Kenora), Ontario.
